Software Freedom Day 2007

Sri Lankan FOSS community is organizing the SF Day 2007 in parallel to the global SFD event. This event will happen in three areas in the country, Colombo, Kandy and Matara. This will have awareness programs to the school, university students and to the general public. We wish to hold the event on both 14th and 15th September at these three areas.

The general idea of these event is to advocate and promote Free and Open Source software, GNU/Linux, and also to encourage people to use those, etc. I will update my blog about this event time to time.

Feel the Force - Read the Source.

Software Freedom day 2008 also passed!:-) I could not attend a single event this time. :-( I was busy with many other work. But, I do advocate software freedom and use of Free and Open Source Software and Free Operating Systems.

After all these years of advocating, I have noticed that people have changed their views of Software and Piracy. Now they are trying to move in to License software or Legally free software. And out of that people many are trying to move complete to free software and save money and time wasted on virus and other hassle. So I'm happy and as a nation our country should be happy about this change! Thinking out of the box, and looking beyond what you normally see. That's the way to fight piracy.

Buying license and fighting the piracy is one option, but not the better one. The better solution would be using Free and Open source software. Safe and hassle free. ;-)
